After successful tours with Eric Prydz, Immersive were approached by his manager to create the same superstar effect for underground electro music producer Scuba. The ultra minimal structure, striking linear and broken forms and bespoke control console that let him control our custom made motion graphics were perfect for his progressive style and intimate musical performances. Scuba’s show won Best Live Act DJ Mag, 2013.
With Scuba’s highly anticipated new live show, the main objective was a successful marriage of cutting-edge technology and a homage to the aesthetic of the early days of rave culture. The sophisticated stripped-back structural design and fresh use of bespoke LED were designed to distort against the reflective sides. As a highly in-demand and widely touring DJ, Scuba needed a flexible and easily transportable lighting environment so the structure was designed with lightweight aluminium in mind. Again, our experience with touring meant that this stage can be rigged and ready to go in under 30 minutes. It incorporated a direct visual output from Scuba’s Ableton project so that he could change the feeling of the visuals as he mixed his diligently crafted beats on the fly. The audience is meant to feel the music visually as the install lights the room and reacts to Scubas music. This meant that a stage could be experienced as part of one of Scuba’s acclaimed unique performances rather than just as automated visuals watched passively. The stage no longer a separate entity, but now actively part of the tribal synesthetic dance experience.
Our Ai Media Server mapped the LED and was used to integrate a highly intuitive playback system, which gives the artist greater flexibility with on-the-fly editing whilst still keeping synchronised with the visual elements.
